Submit a Song

We welcome your suggestions for songs about work to add to our database. To warrant inclusion, a song must be about:

• Doing a job
• The content of a job
• Role relations at work
• An occupation
• The honor, dignity of working even if others don't recognize the worker's dignity etc.
• The unfairness of work, it's rewards, etc.
• The need to work to have a life, support family, etc.
• The woes of working conditions, labor relations etc.

We plan on adding other kinds of songs related to work in the future, including:

• Union songs (e.g., being a member of a union and/or the union's role in the workplace)
• Songs sung while working (e.g., shanties, arhoolies, field hollers)

We are not including songs that are:

• About what work allows for/interferes with in life (e.g., relaxation, free time, love, sex, etc.)
• Metaphors for sex or something other than a productive activity (a productive activity need not be paid work) 
• Horatio Alger tunes: I made it to where I am because I worked so hard.  If you don't work hard you won't make it.
• About regrets regarding working instead of living
• Primarily about the money that you get from working
